Airgas recently congratulated Scaled Composites, LLC, for leading the SpaceShipOne team in winning the $10 million Ansari X Prize for world first commercial manned space flight.
The team had to make two space flights with the same ship within two weeks to be declared the winner.
Airgas provided the liquid nitrous oxide used to power SpaceShipOne to the frontiers of space as well as other industrial and specialty gases used in building the record-setting rocket.
The SpaceShipOne team build and launch a spaceship able to carry three people to 100 kilometers (62.5 miles) and return safely. It reached space three times, first was on June 21, setting the stage for the X Prize flights on September 29 and October 4.
