"Congress should consider tax breaks up to $3,500 for consumers who buy alternative-energy vehicles," told Bill Ford, CEO of Ford Motor, in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
He added that "The hundred-year reign of the gas-powered, internal-combustion engine will, I believe, come to an end in our lifetime. The government should provide the infrastructure and incentives to help businesses create a larger market for hydrogen-powered vehicles."
In 2002, U.S. Congress passed a five-year program authorizing a $2,000 tax break for hybrid cars. The tax break is set to elapse in 2007. |
