Praxair will deliver more than 30 million pounds of dry ice to LSG Sky Chefs this year for cooling food on airline flights. Manufactured from liquid carbon dioxide, the sealed bags of dry ice will travel from 17 Praxair facilities to more than 70 LSG Sky Chefs customer service centers at 45 airports across the United States, Canada and Mexico. LSG Sky Chefs is the global airline catering subsidiary of LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG.
Praxair won the business after specialists at its state-of-the-art Food Technology Center in Burr Ridge, Illinois, used airline trolleys and actual menu selections to simulate LSG Sky Chefs' current food-production process, and to determine the most efficient and cost-effective methods of cooling and refrigerating the food and beverages.
